I can’t quite put my finger on it, but this footage of Romney actually makes me like him more than I did before. What do you think?

NewsWeek Beliefwatch: Mormons
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007A fun little article about Mormons, politics, and Mitt Romney from Newsweek.
By Lisa Miller
Newsweek
July 23, 2007 issue – As a rule, Mormons tend to be white, conservative and Republican—and as obedient to established authority as any group out there—but a close look reveals cracks in that glossy surface. There’s Harry Reid, of course, the Mormon convert and vocal leader of the Senate Democrats. And there’s Orrin Hatch, conservative, Republican and Mormon to the core—except that he supports embryonic-stem-cell research, an issue upon which the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has no official stance but which President George W. Bush opposes. (more…)
Are The Following Religious Questions Fair Game for Mitt Romney?
Monday, June 25th, 2007In light of the ruckus made by Senators McCain and Brownback, and Mayor Rudy Guliani about Mitt Romney’s religion, and since my concerns as a Mormon about Mitt Romney have already reached the public domain, I would like to take the opportunity that this strange confluence of events affords to ask my fellow Mormons a few questions.
First…..my biases: (more…)

Mitt Romney on Colbert : On Romney’s 60 Minutes Polygamy Comments
Tuesday, May 15th, 2007Mitt Romney EVERYWHERE (Time Magazine, 60 Minutes, NPR, etc.)
Tuesday, May 15th, 2007
Holy Moly! I can’t escape Mitt Romney today in the media, no matter where I turn!!!! Seriously.
- I wake up this morning and a friend IM’s me about an NPR story today called “Black and Mormon”, that begins with a mention of Mitt Romney (though not by name).
- I go to exercise this morning w/ my iPod, and there he is on Tom Ashbrook’s “On Point” podcast — in an episode called “Mitt’s Run”.
- Driving home from the gym, I turn on Michael Medved, and the main topic for the day is — you guessed it — Mitt Romney.
- I’m doing some gardening work around lunchtime, and so I turn to an episode of Bill Moyer’s Journal entitled “Keeping the Faith” (again a podcast), and Mitt Romney is all over that too.
- I go to the Politico web site to learn about the GOP debates tonight, and there he is again — this time in an article entitled, “Anti-Mormon Campaign Slams Romney“.
- And this doesn’t even count Romney on the front page of Time magazine, with 2
articles:
- What Mitt Romney Believes, along with
- Romney’s Mormon Question
- Along with the recent article in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine dealing with the LDS Church’s recent attempts to reach out to blacks entitled, “The Saints Go Marching In“
- And don’t forget his appearance on 60 Minutes last Sunday.
Holy Moly!!! Mitt Romney is EVERYWHERE!!!!!!
It will be VERY, VERY interesting to see where this all leads.
Mitt Romney on 60 Minutes: “I can’t imagine anything more awful than polygamy”
Thursday, May 10th, 2007From the Drudge Report– MITT ROMNEY: I CAN’T IMAGINE ANYTHING MORE AWFUL THAN POLYGAMY’
In what may be his strongest public statements against the Bush administration, presidential candidate Mitt Romney says his fellow Republicans in the Bush White House made mistakes in Iraq that the country is still paying for. Romney also deplores the polygamy his ancestors practiced in the 19th Century in a 60 MINUTES interview with Mike Wallace to be broadcast Sunday, May 13 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“I think the administration made a number of errors,” he tells Wallace. “I don’t think we were adequately prepared for what occurred. I don’t think we did enough planning. I don’t think we considered the various downsides and risks,” says Romney.
He says President Bush isn’t the only one to blame. “He’s the person where the buck stops, but it goes through the secretary of defense and the planning agencies, the Department of State — it’s the whole administration,” Romney says. “They made mistakes and we’re paying for those mistakes.”
The president’s “surge” policy of putting additional troops into Iraq may never work, says Romney, but it deserves a chance. “We’re going to know in a matter of months if it’s working or not working.” (more…)
