AskGramps.org on LDS Members Who Lose Their Testimonies.

Holy moly … this is a classic (from my buddy Paul):

Dear Gramps,
If my husband has been blessed with a wonderful knowledge of the gospel and declares that he no longer thinks that the Mormon Church is true, how do I help him, my two young children and myself?

Weston, from Salt Lake City, Utah

Dear Weston,
You could somehow encourage him to confess to his bishop the iniquity in which he is engaged that has caused the Holy Spirit to withdraw from him so that he no longer has the witness of the Spirit of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the restoration of the true and living Church, the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and the witness that Joseph Smith and his successors are indeed true and effectual prophets of God.

Gramps even has a podcast now!!!!

Wherever you sit on the gospel spectrum, please let Gramps know how you feel.  He deserves extra points just for the effort!!!

Frequently Asked Questions from the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

I’ve been informed that this stuff has been around for a while, but still I think it’s exciting!!!! Semi-authoritative, apologetic answers to the tougher questions on a church owned and controlled web site!!!!

Check it out! Frequently Asked Questions from the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship.

They seem to attack many of the issues:

Certainly for church friends and critics alike, this is a step in the right direction, no? Finally some clarity.

To me, this is very exciting and positive.

Amazing Candor on Joseph Smith! Kudos to the Maxwell Institute at BYU!!!

I was up on the BYU Maxwell Institute web site, and noticed something really fascinating. Check out the “Frequently Asked Questions” blurb at the top right of the web site. It reads:

“Mormons often speak of Joseph Smith as a “martyr” who died for his religious beliefs. But Smith fought off the mob at Carthage with a pistol, killing two of them in the process, which disqualifies him as a martyr. A real martyr willingly lays down his life for Christ. ”

To me, this is amazing candor on the part of BYU’s Maxwell Institute. Kudos to you all!!!!
